Our community

Saltram Crescent is a perfect example of a great community street in Central London. It has all sorts of private and community owned housing. Flats and houses, a college, shops and all sorts of people of all ages and backgrounds who get on.

With the support and help of Westminster Council who did all the legal work to close the street for us and local businesses like Brandon Tool Hire who loaned us a couple of port loos, we came together with a street party to celebrate the Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in the Summer of 2012.

We ate, danced, played, jumped on bouncy castles and kicked footballs in the street with our community policemen. In our street, a car free street. It was lovely.

Our Mayor, Boris Johnson, is keen to stop the exodus of families from the capital. The schools are improving leaps and bounds to encourage families to stay. In Paddington Academy we have one of the top 10 secondary schools in the UK on our doorstep.

But Saltram Crescent has an ugly side. A lethal side that seriously threatens the safety and lives of our children and the quality and calm of our lives here.

The unpleasantness and threat to the safety and calm of the street is caused by motorists using the street as a rat run, driving through - speeding, refusing to give way - shouting, screaming and sometimes crashing.

Thankfully there hasn't been a terrible injury. But as you'll see on this site - it's been close. But how much closer will we let it get?

The street is a rat run/short cut.

It's not wide enough for two way traffic

Nearly every day there's an argument or a fight.

There have been terrible accidents.

It's time to do SOMETHING before it's too late.

Tell us what you think in our questionnaire here. It's only take a few minutes to fill in.
